Gas Permits Taken Care Of
We take out the gas permit for the work we do.
Every gas fitting job we do in Calgary is done by a licensed Red Seal journeyman, never an apprentice, who holds both a plumbing and a gasfitter certificate. The Government of Alberta lists Gasfitter Class B as a compulsory certification trade in Alberta’s Gasfitter Class B trade profile. It describes gasfitters as the trade that sizes, installs, tests, adjusts and services natural gas and propane equipment.
We work in homes across Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere and Okotoks. Call us during our hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 5:00) to book a visit.
As well as running gas lines, we can install a new furnace, a boiler or a gas water heater, and each has its own page. The City of Calgary warns that improper installation, repair or damage to a gas appliance could lead to sickness, injury or even death from fire or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Gas fitting in your home from us can include:
Kitchen Range
Running the gas line for a new kitchen range, subject to your home’s setup and the permits that apply.
Garage
Running a gas line to an attached or detached garage, underground where required.
Gas Permit
Taking out the gas permit for our work.
A journeyman sees the job before you get a price. If the range is part of a bigger kitchen project, see our plumbing renovation work.
Price Agreed First
$69.99
The cost of a gas line depends on your home. The existing setup, how easy it is to reach where the line goes, any upgrades needed and any changes to meet current code all move the price. We don’t give prices over the phone.
A licensed technician comes to you, looks at the problem and gives you your options with a firm price before any work starts. The visit is $69.99, waived if you go ahead.
Gas Safety
A rotten-egg smell is added to natural gas so it can be detected, ATCO, one of Alberta’s natural gas utilities, says. If you smell gas inside your home:
Leave the house right away.
Leave lights and appliances alone.
Call 911 from outside.
Never open a natural gas valve yourself, ATCO says. If your carbon monoxide alarm goes off, or anyone in the house has symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, the Calgary Fire Department says to leave and call 911. Don’t go back in until the Fire Department says it’s safe. The City of Calgary says carbon monoxide alarms are mandatory on each level of your home and near all sleeping areas.

Licensed Red Seal journeymen only, each holding a plumbing and a gasfitter certificate; never apprentices.

Don was very professional and efficiently explained the options to our exterior hot/cold water faucet problem. He was able to replace the faucet during his first visit and double checked everything before he completed the job. Thanks.

Don was prompt, professional and accurate in his diagnosis and quote. We highly appreciated his honesty and ability to communicate the whole process along with the possibility of some additional work that may have come up depending on what they found once they started. This was helpful in easing our concerns as this was not a planned repair. We were also pleasantly surprised when this additional work was not needed. This was such a great experience that we are now looking forward to working with Don again in the next year to complete some planned work.

Read the full reviewDon was very professional, honest, and friendly. He did a great job and took the time to explain everything clearly. He also gave me helpful maintenance tips and, after his inspection, he honestly said that no repairs were needed — only regular maintenance. I really appreciated that he didn’t try to upsell or push unnecessary services. It’s hard to find someone this trustworthy nowadays. Highly recommend!

Read the full reviewYes. On the City’s plumbing and gas permits page, the City of Calgary says installing, altering or adding to a gas system needs a gas permit. A homeowner can apply for one only if they’re an Alberta certified journeyman gasfitter working on a single family home, the City adds. When we do the work, we take out the gas permit for it. We can’t take out a permit for work another company has done or is doing, or for work another company has already finished.
Yes, subject to your home’s setup and the permits that apply. On the City’s heating and ventilation permits page, the City of Calgary says every new gas range installation needs a permit. That permit is issued to a qualified gas fitter and covers the range and the gas line serving it. A new range’s clearance requirements could differ from the old one’s, the City adds, and it has to be installed to the maker’s instructions.
Yes. We run gas lines to attached and detached garages, including underground gas lines where required, and take care of the permits for our work. If the line is for a garage heater, its gas piping is priced separately from the heater’s starting price, as our garage heater installation page explains. Before any ground is dug, the City of Calgary points to Alberta’s one-call system to find out what’s buried, at no charge.
No. In Alberta, plumber and Gasfitter Class B are two separate trades, and each is a compulsory certification trade, the Government of Alberta says. Its plumber trade profile describes plumbers as the trade that plans, installs and services plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. Every one of our technicians holds both certificates, so the licensed gas fitter who runs your gas line is a plumber too.
ATCO, one of Alberta’s natural gas utilities, says the connector a gas stove or dryer leaves behind has to come off, and the gas line needs a cap or a plug. Without that step, replacing the appliance with an electric one, or taking it out, leaves an open line. An open gas line can allow natural gas to leak into your home, ATCO says, and it’s a job for a qualified gas fitter or heating contractor. Every one of our technicians holds the Gasfitter B certificate.
Most installations and repairs carry a one-year workmanship warranty, and a whole-house repipe or a main shut-off replacement carries three years. Parts carry the manufacturer's warranty, usually one to six years depending on the brand. Maintenance, such as a tank flush, is not warranted. Ask us about the warranty on your job.
