How We Write Our Guides.
Our guides answer the questions homeowners ask us about their plumbing and heating. This page covers the guides on our plumbing and heating blog that name the person responsible for them, such as Jackson MacDonald. It explains where what’s in them comes from, who checks it, and what to do if you find a mistake.
Where the Knowledge Comes From
The guides come from the work our licensed Red Seal journeymen do in homes in Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere and Okotoks: water heaters, furnaces and boilers, drains and leaks. Between them, the team has over 50 years of combined experience.
Who Checks Every Guide
Jackson MacDonald, the owner of Jack’d Up Plumbing and a Red Seal journeyman, checks and approves every guide published under his name before it goes up. More about Jackson.
A guide explains what the answer depends on, such as the age of your equipment, the layout of your home or what a permit requires. It doesn’t give one answer for every home. When a job needs a licensed professional, the guide says so.
How We Handle Facts
- When a guide takes a figure from another source, or names where a rule or instruction comes from, it links to that page. Those sources include the City of Calgary, the Government of Alberta, Natural Resources Canada, ATCO and the makers of the equipment.
- When a guide tells you what we see on the job, it says that this is our experience.
- If we can’t point to a source or to our own work for something, we leave it out.
- When a guide gives our price for a type of job, such as a new furnace, the figure is a general guide, not a quote for your job. The guide also says what can move it. A licensed technician visits for $69.99, waived if you go ahead with the job, and gives you a firm price before any work starts.
